PEVELY, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

The Pevely Police Department is asking for help locating a person of interest after a suspect was caught on surveillance camera breaking into the Dollar General Store in the 8600 block of Commercial Boulevard.

Corporal Ben Litterell said the thief set off the alarm when he got in through the roof around 2 a.m.

"They believe the subject used a pair of tin snips to cut a hole and enter the business through the roof," said Litterell.

On surveillance video, the burglar can be seen checking file cabinet draws in search of cash but he failed to find any. After just a couple of minutes of searching, the thief grabbed three cartons of Marlboro cigarettes and climbed back up into the ceiling and out the roof.

Customer Cayla Smith said, "It's surprising I've never heard of anything like that happening around here."

Litterell said the suspect appeared to be a slender white man wearing welding gloves and welding chaps. He also said the burglar had to have good climbing skills to be able to get through the roof into the office and back out. Tuesday morning, the Pevely Police Department identified Mark Canterberry as a person of interest in the case.

"When the subject entered the roof he grabbed a lot of pipes and beams and basically did his best audition for Ninja Warriors so to speak," said Litterell.

Detectives are asking for anyone who has seen Canterberry to contact the Pevely Police Department.
