GLENDALE (KMOV.com) -

A Glendale man fell victim to a scam that cost him thousands of dollars.

The man says he got a call from someone claiming to be his grandson. The con artist told him he was in a jail in Florida and needed $4,000 in gift cards to be bailed out.

After buying the gift cards, he provided the called with the card numbers, losing all the money.

Police say the scam is known as the ‘Grandparent Scam.’

Police say those behind the scam will start the call by claiming the person on the other end is their parent and then wait for the victim to respond with a name.
