ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

Saint Louis University (SLU) is warning students and university community members about a phishing scheme.

The university said a student was contacted via phone by someone claiming to be from a bank. The caller asked for the student's credit card information, which the student did not provide.

A call was made to the university's Information Technology Service and Compliance Department.

SLU's ITS said they identified the call as a case of Social Engineering, which is a type of phishing that uses deception to gain access to sensitive information.

Students and SLU community members are advised not to give out any personal information to unknown persons through phone calls or emails. SLU said ITS will never ask for a student's ID or password through phone or email.
