1 dead in single car crash in University City

UNIVERSITY CITY, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

A 19-year-old man died in a one-car accident that occurred in University City Tuesday night.

The accident occurred on Midland Avenue near Shaftsbury around 10:30 p.m. A gold 1999 Chevy Monte Carlo was traveling northbound on Midland from Vernon at a high-rate of speed. It left the road and hit an Ameren UE pole, snapping the pole in half, police said.

The car then came to the rest on a tree lawn on the street, about 100 feet from where it left the roadway.

A 19-year-old driver, two 19-year-old passengers and a 20-year-old passenger were inside the car. Francisco Rosalez, 19, who was sitting in the rear passenger side seat, died from his injuries.

Everyone else inside the car suffered minor injuries.

Police said the driver was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and DUI.

The investigation into the wreck in ongoing.
