For many pets, the Fourth of July holiday can be a nightmare.

Its the busiest time of the year at animal shelters because pets scared of fireworks run away.

The Human Society said they've gotten reports of more than 30 lost dogs over the last two days.

Only 20 percent of pet owners reunite with their lost animal following an Independence Day run away.

Four area shelters created a website that makes it easier for owners to claim lost pets.

On their website, STL Lost Pets says that 90 percent of lost, stray and unwanted pets in the St. Louis area end up at one of their four agencies.

If your pet isn't listed on the website, you can upload a photo of your four-legged friend, that way if someone finds your furry friend, they can see them on the site and return them.
