ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

A new crime trend is hitting the midwest as motorcycle thefts are on the rise.

In Overland Park, Kansas, police are investigating a string of eight motorcycle thefts between May and June.

A Kansas City man had his bike stolen by a driver of a pickup truck, and he's warning all motorcycle owners to be aware.

"I'm not the only one out there that has a bike stolen," said Chip Anderson, a victim of a motorcycle theft. "If you see something strange, report it. People love their bikes and it sucks to see them get taken by people who don't appreciate that."

According to St. Louis Police crime statistics, there were 16 motorcycle thefts through May of last year.

There have been 25 motorcycle thefts through May of this year, a rise about nine percent.
