ST LOUIS (KMOV.com) Thousands packed Art Hill in Forest Park for the first day of Fair St. Louis, taking in the live music, food and fun. 

With large crowds, security is always at the top of mind and St. Louis City Police working along side Fair St Louis officials to ensure a safe festival. 

"Our officers are both under cover and in uniform, so we have the area covered with security for everyone so we want everyone to have a safe time," said Major John hayden with the St. Louis Police Department. 

St. Louis County police are also assisting with security. There are bag checks at every entrance, so give yourself extra time to get through. There are no weapons, coolers or outside food allowed. But you can bring a sealed water bottle. 

Fair St Louis opens on Monday at 4:00 pm with Eve 6 and Three Doors Down performing. Fireworks kick of at 10:00pm. 

Be aware if you are driving to the festival, there are several road closures.

Lindell is closed from Union to Skinker until the end of the fair. The exit ramp from westbound Highway 40 (Interstate 64) to Clayton Road/Skinker Boulevard, which will be shut down through 1 a.m. Wednesday.

The entrance ramp from Clayton/Skinker to eastbound Highway 40 with also be closed. The eastbound and westbound exit ramps from Highway 40 to Hampton and McCausland avenues will be closed from 5 p.m. to midnight through Tuesday.
