A fatal accident involving four vehicles left one dead and three other drivers injured.
The accident occurred Monday afternoon on Highway 67. Three different vehicles were parked off the side of the southbound lanes of the highway just after 3:00 p.m. The vehicles were parked in close proximity, one after the other.
Missouri State Highway Patrol said a fourth vehicle traveled off the right side of the highway and struck the third vehicle. The impact sent the vehicles forward in an accordion-like fashion.
The accident left four people injured, three of them being injured from the third vehicle, which was a 1991 Jeep Cherokee. The driver of the third vehicle, 53 year-old Guy Haywood, was fatally injured. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The passengers of the third vehicle, 34 year-old Melinda Haywood and 17 year-old Tina King, were transported to the hospital where they are listed in serious condition.
Alberta Arndt, 55, was the driver of the first vehicle parked on the side of the highway. She sustained minor injuries.
Authorities identified the driver of the fourth vehicle as 66 year-old Ryszard Wojtysiak of McHenry, Illinois. He was not injured.
The cause of the accident is unknown. The investigation is ongoing.
