ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

More than a dozen foreign tech companies are considering setting up shop in St. Louis.

Many of the companies are based out of Ireland and Israel. Sierra Clancy, who represents one of the 14 firms being recruited by BioSTL, will try to sell the concept to St. Louis-area institutions.

“We would love to set up base in St. Louis,” Sierra Clancy said.

The firms have been recruited by BioSTL, which is based at  Cortex. BioSTL is already home to many tech companies.

“To take the St. Louis innovation community to the next level, we need to be globally connected,” said Donn Rubin with BioSTL.

Rubin said foreign tech companies visiting St. Louis are not taking a free trip. BioSTL is connecting firms like the one Clancy works for to established hospitals and business in the St. Louis region. BioSTL hopes the companies will also plant roots here.

Clancy said she likes what she’s from St. Louis, a place that could be her company’s new North American headquarters.

A tax break or government subsidy is not part of the equation.
