SWANSEA (KMOV.com) -

Each year boys and girls from all over Swansea, Illinois come together for an annual first responders summer camp.

The Swansea Police and Fire Youth Academy offered three dozen boys and girls, ages 9-13, first-hand experience of what firefighters and police officers do on a daily basis.

One of the main goals of the camp is to teach kids about safety.

Previous academy graduates tell News 4 they are already thinking about becoming first responders.

The Swansea Fire Chief said the academy will visit the St. Clair County jail and speak with prisoners on Wednesday.
