String of car burglaries reported in Metro East

BELLEVILLE, Ill. (KMOV.com) – Police in the Metro East are investigating a string of car burglaries.

Police told News 4 several vehicles on the northeast side of Route 159 were broken into between May 27 and June 2. In some cases, the suspects took belongings.

A woman’s surveillance camera captured a guy slowly looking around her property with a flashlight. The woman claims the guy was looking at her car, which was parked under the carport. In the video, it appears the guy left but the woman said he was trying her car doors. The suspect was not able to steal anything from her.

The woman said it appeared the suspects were teenagers.

Various victims told News 4 the suspects stole jewelry, money and a gun. The Belleville Police Department is asking people who believe they had something stolen to contact them to claim their property.

Police have not provided any description of the suspects.
