ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

A single felony charge was brought against an inmate who was caught by police Wednesday in Festus.

Bruce Brutsman is being charged with a single count of Escape From Police Custody While Under Arrest for a Felony. The charge against Brutsman is a felony, as well.

Police said Brutsman escaped from St. Louis County Justice Center custody Saturday afternoon and now CrimeStoppers had been offering a reward for information that leads to his arrest.

Around 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Brutsman was taken from the center to an area hospital for treatment after allegedly swallowing a battery. While inside the facility, he was able to escape from officers and flee on foot.

On June 25, investigators confirmed that Brutsman was caught on a surveillance camera stealing a delivery driver’s car from outside an Imo's in the 5800 block of Hampton Avenue less than two hours after escaping from the medical facility.

The car Brutsman allegedly stole was described as a white 1997 Toyota Tercel with black bumpers and Missouri license plate SK8R4K.

“I was just thankful that he walked right in front of my security camera. Literally, you couldn’t ask for a better view of his face, it was perfect and I’m glad we got that,” said Robert Cartwright, an employee of the Imo’s.

In April, Brutsman reportedly attempted to steal a car from a lot in Arnold. Dave Sewell, the owner of the lot, told News 4 he recognized the escaped inmate when he saw the surveillance video from outside the Imo’s.

“I knew right off the bat it was Bruce,” Sewell said. “They’ve been looking for him for quite a while. He was here on my lot in April trying to steal a motorcycle, unsuccessfully for probably 35 minutes. So, we have a lot of video footage of him.”
