ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – Emergency crews responded after a truck crashed into an embankment on the side of River des Peres Wednesday morning.

The truck driven by 55-year-old Mark Soest, of Jerome Avenue, was pulling a trailer when it went down the hill and crashed into the embankment near the 3500 block of Wellington around 8 a.m.

Police said the car was traveling eastbound on Picadilly in the wrong direction when it passed through a red light and flew into the air. After hitting the embankment, the truck turned on its side and was in the area where the water would be, but the water is so low the vehicle never hit the water.

When emergency crews arrived, they had to extricate the man out of the truck. He was pronounced dead at a St. Louis hospital.

No other details have been made available.
