Police: Fight led to double-shooting in north St. Louis

NORTH ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -

One man is dead after a fight led to a double-shooting in north St. Louis Tuesday night. 

The shooting occurred around 7:50 p.m. in the 5900 block of Wabada, near the intersection with Hodiamont. Responding officers found the first victim, 36 year-old James Russell, unconscious on the sidewalk. He sustained a gunshot wound to the head, and was later pronounced dead at the scene. 

Over in the 2500 block of Hodiamont, police found a second victim with multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body. The second victim, a 21 year-old man, was transported to the hospital. At last check, he was listed in critical/stable condition.

A third woman arrived on scene while police were investigating. The third victim, an 18 year-old woman, said she was with the two men when the shooting occurred. She was not injured. 

Police said an investigation revealed the victims were involved in a fight with several other men in the 2500 block of Hodiamont. The fight ended in the 5900 block of Wabada, where the first victim was found. 

The investigation is still ongoing.
