GRANITE CITY, Ill. (KMOV.com) - A police officer in the Metro East says he is being retaliated against for being a whistle blower.

A lieutenant for the Granite City Police Department says he is being unfairly disciplined as payback or retaliation.

In November, Lt. Jonathan Blaylock says he found out through a co-worker that relatives of the police chief were involved in producing and distributing cannabis oil, an illegal substance. Information about possible illegal activity also involved another high-ranking police official's wife.

In December, Lt. Blaylock says he turned the information over the FBI to investigate.

Ever since, he claims in the suit, he is being disciplined and was even put on a performance improvement plan.

He claims the discipline is all just to make a bad working environment for him in retaliation for whistle-blowing.

The department declined to talk on camera, but sent a statement through their attorney denying any retaliation.

An attorney for Lt. Blaylock declined to comment, due to the pending litigation.
