GLEN CARBON, Ill. (KMOV.com) – There was large outpouring of donations on Friday for the children who survived  Thursday morning’s events in the Metro East .

The Little Tigers Football organization and the Edwardsville Wrestling Club collected boxes and bags of donations of shoes, clothes, toys and money for the seven children.

"It's overwhelming, the response is great," says organizer Eddie Lowry of the Little Tigers.

"it's so heartbreaking," said Sean McMeen who both donated and volunteered on the Edwardsville High School Football field.

The children, ages 14, 13, 11, 10, 6, 4, 3 months, lost everything when their home on Dogwood Lane caught fire around 5:15 a.m. Thursday.

Shortly after the fire, the 3-month-old was rescued from a submerged SUV in Silver Lake in Highland. Officials later found a body in the lake and identified it as Cristy Campbell, the mother of the children. A body found inside the burned home was identified Friday as Justin Campbell, 37. He had been shot prior to the fire.

Organizers say as of Friday night they have received an incredible amount of donated items and money totaling in the tens of thousands.

Donations of money are still being accepted on the Little Tigers website here.

A GoFundMe page has also been set up for the children.

It’s been a rough few weeks for those who help abandoned, neglected or lost animals. Earlier this month there were two separate incidents in which SUVs were stolen from those trying to help animals and just last Friday, a truck belonging to Stray Rescue was stolen.
