(KMOV.com) - A Franklin County lawyer who was accused of strangling his girlfriend to death while they were on a trip to Mexico has been acquitted.

John Loveless and Tamra Turpin went on a trip to Playa Del Carmen March, 2016. Turpin was later found dead in the condo where she was staying. Mexican authorities later determined that Turpin was strangled to death.

A Mexican court acquitted Loveless on Tuesday. According to a post on the Justice for Tamra Turpin Facebook page, a tribunal in Mexico determined there was not enough evidence to convict Loveless. The post went on to say the court detailed faults with the medical examiner’s and faults with the prosecution.

The court said those flaws are the reason why Loveless was found not guilty. The post goes onto state that the court said the decision does not mean Loveless is innocent.
