SWANSEA, Ill. (KMOV.com) – Four people are in custody at the St. Clair County Jail after two separate home invasions in Swansea on Sunday.

Around 1 p.m., police were called to a report of a home invasion in the 1500 block of Karen. When officers arrived, they found a man who had been battered by a woman who had barged in the front unlocked doors of his home.

When the woman left the home, the driver of her getaway car showed a firearm, police said. The police department then broadcast the suspect and vehicle information, which led to the Belleville Police Department finding the vehicle.

When police surrounded the building the suspect vehicle was parked at, the two suspects walked outside and were taken into custody. Police said a gun was found inside the suspects’ residence.

Then, around 10:30 p.m., two men wearing masks burst through the front door of an apartment in the 1800 block of Jamestown Road and demanded money. When police arrived to the scene, the arrested the suspects, whom the victims said they knew from attending Lindenwood University.

Swansea Police Chief Steve Johnson said, “Although in both separate cases the victims knew the suspects, these incidents could have ended up with significant violence. Professional 911 call dispatching, quick response by Swansea Officers, smart Detective work, and teamwork with Belleville Police Department all aided in the successful arrests of these four suspects.”

The identity of the suspects in custody has not been released by police.
