BELLEVILLE, Ill. (KMOV.com) -

Metro East business owners are balking at a plan to impose a state sales tax on certain services in Illinois.

The idea is to try and help the state crawl out of a deep budget hole, which now has the state behind on bills by more than $12 billion.

"We're going to have to definitely pass that along to our customers," says Lynn McNew, owner of Almighty Tattoo in Belleville.

Tattoo shops are just one of about a dozen services that would be subject to the 6.25 percent sales tax.  Others include pest control, landscaping services and dry cleaning.

"We have to incur costs to comply with this," says Lou Ryseff of Bright Way Cleaners in Belleville.

At this point, the sales tax on services is just under consideration in Springfield.
