ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

A local doctor is making a huge difference in thousands of children’s lives, but the month of March is particularly special.

Dr. Perry Schoeneker has been on staff at Shriners Hospital since 1974, operating on children of all ages.

“The best part of the job is that we can provide comprehensive, state of the art care for all sorts of muskoskeletal deformities. In the end, there is little or no burden on the family as far as how to financially take care of the cost of the treatment,” said Dr. Schoeneker.

Schoeneker also works at Washington University and St. Louis Children’s Hospital but he will be stepping down as Chief of Staff at Shriners Hospital to spend more time with his patients.

“It’s extremely gratifying and so encouraging. It just becomes an inducement to do more and more,” said Dr. Schoeneker.

A 19-year-old patient of Dr. Schoeneker, Seth Currington, had eight hip surgeries done by Dr. Schoeneker since he was 15.

“He’s a great doctor, great doctor yeah,” said Currington.
