ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

Lyda Krewson says she is not taking the general election on April 4 for granted.

Yet, winning the Democratic primary on Tuesday does position her to be the city's first woman mayor.

As mayor, Krewson says her first priority will be a neighborhood safety plan that includes boosting the city's police force.

"We'll have to pay them more, we need to train them better, and we need a more diverse police force,"  Krewson says.

Krewson also says she is welcoming the support of St. Louis County Executive Steve Stenger, who was on stage with Krewson during her victory speech.
