FRANKLIN COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

Franklin County authorities say residents are receiving checks in the mail that appear to be from Walmart, but are actually a scam.

The fake letter offers the recipients a job as a "Consumer Service Evaluator" or a "Secret Shopper."

A fraudulent check is also attached to the letter for about $2,000 asking you to register as an employee, shop at Walmart stores and then report about your experience.

Police said once you deposit the check, thieves are able to access and clear out your banking account.

A representative from Walmart told News 4 they do not solicit mystery shoppers via email, mail or other public means.
