U.S. Steel employee dead following incident at Granite City plant

GRANITE CITY, Ill. (KMOV.com) – An investigation is underway after a worker died following an incident at the United States Steel plant in Granite City Sunday morning.

The incident occurred around 10 a.m. in the rail yard area of the plant.

After Granite City police and firefighters responded to the scene, the victim, Timothy Dagon, 42, was taken by helicopter to a St. Louis hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The U.S. Steel Corporation said they are working closely with the U.S. Steelworkers and relevant government agencies throughout the investigation process. The company also activated its Employee Assistance Program to offer services to the victim’s family and coworkers. 

Monday morning, the police department said the incident appears to be an accident, but they have not released any other information regarding the incident.
