2 MSHP officers injured after semi-truck crash on I-70

Two officers from the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MHSP) were injured following a traffic accident with a semi-truck. 

Police said 50-year-old Michael Broniec and 31-year-old Derek Mason of the MHSP were parked on the shoulder of Interstate Highway 70 (I-70), near I-270 Sunday morning. That is when the semi-truck driven by 47-year-old Mathew Smith crashed into the back of their vehicle. 

Both troopers were transported to the hospital, one of the troopers suffered moderate injuries while the other suffered minor injuries. The condition of the semi-truck driver is unknown. 

Both troopers have been released from the hospital and are doing well. 

The cause of the accident is still being investigated.
