PERRYVILLE (KMOV.com) -

Travis M. Koenig, 24,  was killed when a tornado touched down in Perryville Tuesday night, according to the Perry County Coroner.

Koenig was driving along I-55 when the tornado hit, according to officials.

He graduated from St. Vincent High School in 2011 and was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Church according to parishioners.

The church held an Ash Wednesday service as the community as a whole deals with the devastation, and for some the gathering took on a new meaning.
“It hit you in the heart a lot deeper than what you typically go to church and experience,” said Mark Barber.

Koenig’s obituary said he loved hunting, life and the outdoors, and that he was a maintenance technician at Unilever in Sikeston, Missouri.

A visitation is scheduled at Young & Sons Funeral Home on Friday, March 3 from 3:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held Saturday, March 4 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m.
