PERRYVILLE, Mo. (KMOV.com) – The driver who found the body of a man following the tornado in Perryville, Missouri said the scene is seared into his memory.

Fred Carrico was driving through Perryville when he got caught in the storm on Interstate 55 as the tornado came through.

“It looked like, it looked like Vietnam,” he said. “I mean it was bad. It looked like a war zone, cars everywhere, people were screaming, and women were getting out and running.”

Some people grabbed flashlights, looking to help anyone hurt. Tragically, that is when Carrico found the body of a young man, later identified as Travis Koenig, 24, of Perryville.

“I’ve got kids and I would hate to see something like that happen to my children or anybody’s children for that matter. This guy was young, 24-25 years old, had his whole live ahead of him,” he said. “Swept away by this tornado, it’s tragic.”
