CAHOKIA, Ill. (KMOV.com) -- A body found near Cahokia last week was positively identified as a hunter who went missing in early 2016.

The remains were found in a wooded area off of Route 3 just south of Cahokia, near the levee.

The St. Clair County Sheriff's Department said the remains were identified as Christopher Stasiak, 43. Stasiak was reported missing after going hunting on January 11, 2016. Stasiak’s remains were found in an area where he was described to have gone hunting, police said. The area was reportedly searched by volunteers who were looking for him on several different occasions, but the exact location is believed to have been underwater during these searches.

"He was the best guy in the world, he was more than just my brother he was my best friend he looked up to me. I looked up to him, we kind of leaned on each other," said Michael Stasiak, Chris' brother, last week.

Stasiak says life hasn't been the same since his brother went missing,

"Kind of hallow dead on the inside wanting to know answers about what happened, wanting some kind of closure."

Police added there were no obvious signs of trauma and Stasiak's belongings were found next to him, in tact.
