Kirkwood school district asks for support of tax increase

KIRKWOOD, Mo (KMOV.com) – Kirkwood school officials said they need a tax increase to keep the district afloat.

The school district held a town hall meeting Saturday morning urging parents to support Proposition K, a 46 cent tax levy that will be on the ballet April 4.

The district said the money would bring an additional 5.8 million dollars to the district every year.

Voters turned down a similar measure in 2015. In that case, the district asked for a 78 cent tax levy.

Tony Zagora, one of the parents, said he’s hoping the measure is approved this time.

“I think it will … really community members across the area realize that they want to live in a community that’s seen as having a great school and a great place to live a great place to raise a family,” Zagora said.

School officials are planning to hold several other town hall meetings from now until Election Day.
