NORTH ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) - One person died in an accident that occurred in north St. Louis Friday evening.

It happened in the 10600 block of Riverview around 5:30 p.m. Police said a car hit a cyclist, and then hit another car head on while trying to avoid the cyclist.

Friends say Mark Buller died at the scene. The 67-year-old was an avid biker, who was out for a routine ride Friday afternoon. He was a professor at St. Louis University School of Medicine. Faculty say he was one-of-a-kind, and is greatly missed.

"I think all too often when these things happen we think oh it happened again or it's another statistic," said Taylor March, with TrailNet.

The non-profit aims to make city streets safer for pedestrians. "Biking is still a very safe activity statistically in the city of st Louis i think its safer than walking," he said.

As the weather warms up, we'll see more cyclists sharing the road. March said, "People need to make sure they stop at all stoplights and stop signs and obey all traffic control devices and for people biking it's the same kind of things."

Whether biking, walking or driving, March says people need to play it safe on the road.

"Moving forward we all have to be vigilant and pay attention but also we have to start planning our infrastructure to start meeting the needs of people choosing another form of transportation," said March.

Police have not filed charges against the driver of the car that killed Buller.
