ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) - Guns, heroin, hydrocodone and other evidence of drug dealing were among the items police seized in a raid on three homes on California Avenue in south St. Louis.

According to police, they knocked, then knocked the door down on one of the houses. Police said that is when someone shot at them and an officer shot back killing 63-year-old Don Clark.

A copy of the detailed search warrant affidavit, outlined the investigation which dated back to May of 2016.

Investigators said that during the past several months, at least three confidential informants provided information of drug dealing on that block of California.

Don Clark, the man killed during the raid, was one of 14 people identified in the search warrant document. Each person identified in the document had a criminal history.

Those who knew Clark said they do not think he dealt drugs. They said he was a devoted grandfather and worried police got the wrong house.

The search warrant told a different story.

A confidential informant told police Clark dealt marijuana from his house and allowed other people to store drugs and weapons in the house.

According to court documents, police found two guns, drug paraphernalia and drugs, including heroin, inside the home where Clark was shot.

In the affidavit police said they cased California Avenue for months and noticed signs of drug dealing. During that time, police noted the suspects would conduct counter-surveillance to watch for cops.

At this time, charges have not been filed against any of the other people arrested during the raid.
