Police: 2-year-old boy returned safe to his mother after father abducted him

Cahokia, Ill. (KMOV.com) - A man is in custody after he allegedly abducted his son while the mother was not at home Sunday afternoon.

Police said around 12:45 p.m., Shanta Gomilla, the mother of a 2-year-old boy called authorities when she discovered her son’s father abducted their child.

Gomilla told police her 22-year-old daughter was watching her son overnight while Gomilla was out. While her daughter was sleep in another room, unknowingly the father Keith Grinston Sr. entered her home and took the child from his bed, authorities say.

Gomilla said Grinston refused to return the child or tell her where they were located.

After further investigation the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office issued a warrant for the arrest of 50-year-old Kieth Grinston Sr.

Grinston is charged with Parent Child Abduction and his bond is set at $75,000.

On Feb 21, around 9 a.m. the U.S. Marshal’s Service found Grinston Sr. and his child in Maryland Heights, Mo. at a relative’s house.

Grinston’s was immediately taken into custody and transported to the St. Louis County Jail while he awaits an extradition hearing to be brought back to Illinois.

Grinston is being charged with Parent Child Abduction and his bond is set at $75,000.

The 2-year-old boy was returned to his mother unharmed.
