ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Ill. (KMOV.com) -

The warm, dry weather is making conditions right for several brush fires that broke out this week.

Several brush/grass fires broke out in St. Charles, De Soto, Ste. Genevieve and the Metro East. One Metro East family said they had to use a garden hose to keep the flames away from their home on Sunday.

“I said thank you Jesus that it didn’t torch out house,” said resident Theresa Logan.

The National Weather Service issued a Red Flag Warning earlier in the week, saying conditions are ideal for grass and brush fires.

“We have dry conditions,” said Jason Blackmon with the East St. Louis Fire Department.

Fire departments are asking people to hold off on any outdoor burning until at least Wednesday, when conditions are expected to improve.
