SOUTH ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -

Police said a teen has been arrested in connection to the fatal shooting of a man who was visiting St. Louis from New York.

A 16-year-old male suspect has been arrested, police say. Another suspect is still at-large. They allegedly shot Kenneth Spalter, 72.

Many in the Tower Grove South neighborhood, where the crime occurred, are in shock over the shooting.

"While most of us have never met him, or interacted with him, it still impacts our community in a really big way," said Andrew Arkills, President of the Tower Grove South Neighborhood Association.

Spalter was in town from New York, visiting his newborn grandchild. Investigators say Spalter and a 71-year-old woman were parking their car on Juniata near Spring Street when two men approached them, demanding their keys. One man shot Spalter before running off. Police are still tracking down leads and are now asking for the help of nearby residents.

"They are looking for surveillance video for the block surrounding the area where it happened. They don't want to share any other details, but they need to try to get as much evidence as possible so they can try to catch the people responsible for this," said Arkills.

The community has a strong message for those responsible.

"What they did has an affect that they will never have to deal with, but this family will have to for the rest of their lives," said Arkills.

The teen who is in custody was arrested in the 4500 block of Pope on February 12 in connection to armed robbery that occurred in the 3200 block of SamuelkShepard on February 10. Police say a 2009 Hyundai Sonata was taken during that robbery. The Sonata was connected to the fatal shooting of Spalter, police say.

The suspect is currently being held at the Juvenile Courts for second degree murder, first-degree robbery and armed criminal action in connection to the shooting.

If you have any information on the shooting, call Crimestoppers at 866-371-TIPS (8477).
