Local start-up gets big boost in business thanks to Beyoncé

ST. CHARLES, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- A St. Charles start-up is getting a big boost in business, thanks to Beyoncé.

The superstar posted a picture on Instagram, announcing her pregnancy in early February. A seamstress at Liviara, in St. Charles, noticed the picture and recognized the underwear Beyoncé was wearing.

“Keisha, one of the seamstresses came in the office,” said Joe Winkelmann, Director of Production at Liviara. “We zoomed in on the sewing of it and we could tell that it was absolutely ours.”

“I know those ruffles in my sleep, so I’m like wait a minute those ruffles look familiar!” said Keisha Nance.

Kara Gatto, Liviara’s founder and CEO, said the powder blue color and distinct ruffle stood out.

“If I was to make a list she would probably be at the top of that list of people that we hope would wear our product.”

Gatto started Liviara a few years ago, when she couldn’t find the quality lingerie she was looking for. The Lindenwood graduate created the company hoping to empower women to feel their best.

“It’s really first and foremost about how it makes you feel and then if you choose to feel that feeling with others that’s wonderful,” Gatto told News 4.

Since Beyoncé’s photo went viral, so has Liviara’s brand. Website traffic has increased by 300 or 400 percent, according to Winkelmann. The panties worn by Beyoncé, along with other styles have seen a huge increase in sales.

“It’s been a tremendous help. Sales have soared,” said Gatto. “Just getting the brand name out there in such a short amount of time so now when we advertise there’s a knowledge base there, it’s not like we’re starting from zero.”

Liviara is preparing for its next high end photo-shoot at the Fox Theater in St. Louis. The lingerie maker is giving away an insider’s experience for the photo-shoot on February 22, 2017, including behind the scenes access and dinner with the Liviara team.
