ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

The family of a woman who was shot in Soulard Monday says they are thankful for the donations many have made to help pay for her medical bills.

Lorraine Stippec, 26, and a 30-year-old St. Louis firefighter were inside a car near 7th and Sidney Streets around 12:30 a.m. when someone opened fire. Stippec was shot in the back and remains in the hospital. The firefighter was treated and released.

“She is the kind of person that never says no to things, which makes her a very busy person. She always had a million jobs. A million friends,” said Kate Stippec, Lorraine’s sister.

Kate said Lorraine’s medical bills are expected to be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.  Kate said nearly $40,000 has been raised through a GoFundMe page, and Lorraine’s employer, PBR, will be donating 10 percent of its Saturday sales to help with her medical bills.  A Pickleman’s location on Laclede near SLU is also contributing.

Police are still investigating the shooting.
