CLAYTON (KMOV.com) -

Residents in North St. Louis County were demanding answers on the next step for Jamestown Mall on Tuesday night.

However, things seem to now be on hold, and many want to know why.

St. Louis County Council has been working to declare Jamestown Mall blighted for months now, but the newly elected representative of the North County area wants more information and time.

“It’s been years in the making, I just got here, so to push me into the corner to just accept what I get and not allow me to vet the process ,and not allow me to do my own legislation is totally unfair,” Councilwoman Rochelle Walton Gray said.

Several people spoke out at a meeting Tuesday night, however, saying the time to act is now.

“We want that mall redeveloped and we don’t want you holding up the progress of it,” a citizen said at the meeting.

Others though, including Councilwoman Gray's father, said the rest of the council is trying to railroad her into making a decision.

“You made a fool of my daughter, she had the best bill going, for this lady to say you’re holding up the bill, she didn’t read the bill you had,” Gray’s father said.

However, County Executive Steve Stenger said her bill to give control of the property to the council instead of the redevelopment board was illegal.

So now what?

Gray said she plans to introduce another bill down the road, but Stenger said they might not need to wait. They are exploring other paths that would not include blighting the former mall, which would allow things to move faster.
