ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

Many people who live in downtown St. Louis say they are not concerned for their safety.

Recent crime in downtown has made headlines. A local rapper was shot and killed outside the Hooters near Kiener Plaza in late January, in what police call a targeted shooting.

The law firm Brown and Crouppen recently said it may move out of downtown St. Louis due to violent crime. But one downtown resident told News 4 she feels safe.

“Downtown is as safe as anywhere and I think often times that things happen on occasion and people just get overly dramatic,” said downtown resident Lauralyn Parmelee.

Another downtown resident told News 4 that those who call downtown home need to do a better job of telling others the neighborhood is safe.

Data from the Downtown Neighborhood Association (DNA) shows that more people are moving into downtown. In 2015, 630 people moved downtown, an increase of 300 from the year before.

DNA said it expects to see an increase when the 2016 numbers are released.
