ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

St. Louis Aldermen are slated to take a first vote on Friday to commit $70 million in taxpayer money for improving the Scottrade Center.

"It's going to be incredibly close," said Alderman Joe Vacarro.

Management for the St. Louis Blues, the main tenant in Scottrade, have lobbied for months to get city help in paying for the upgrades.  There is a Twitter campaign under the #OurArena hash tag.

Total upgrades at Scottrade are expected to reach $130 million.  Zimmerman said the improvements are needed to keep the arena competitive with other cities in attracting non-hockey events to St. Louis.

"As we go into the vote, I do feel confident that people are understanding the economic value," says Blues President Chris Zimmerman.
