2 men accused of stealing from unlocked cars in Columbia, Ill

COLUMBIA, Ill. (KMOV.com) – The Columbia Police Department arrested two men in connection with a series of thefts from cars in the West Park subdivision.

Police say Cody Atkins, 19, and Carter Simmonds, 18, accessed unlocked cars on Bradington Drive, Bradington Court and Forest View Drive overnight on January 23 into the morning of the 24.

The police department has recovered various stolen property and will continue to search for the remaining items that were taken by Adkins and Simmonds. Officials believe the two disposed of unwanted items along Valmeyer Road, D Road and Steppig Road.

Adkins and Simmonds were both charged with four counts of felony burglary.

Officials are asking citizens for any information on a St. Louis honorary sheriff’s badge to contact the Columbia Police Department at 281-5151. The badge has a blue and white symbol in the center and was stored in a black case.
