Teen arrested after armed carjacking in SWIC MetroLink Station parking lot

BELLEVILLE, Ill. (KMOV.com) – A teenager is in custody after a carjacking in the Southwestern Illinois College MetroLink Station parking lot Wednesday night.

The suspect reportedly put a handgun to the victim’s head and ordered him out of the vehicle that was parked on the lot in the 2600 block of Carlyle Avenue just after 8:40 p.m.

When the victim complied with the suspect’s demand, the suspect loaded a bicycle into the vehicle and drove from the area.

The driver sustained a minor injury during the incident.

Following the carjacking, the Mascoutah Police Department found the vehicle in the first block of North 6th Street and saw a person matching the suspect’s description riding a bicycle away from the area.

Officers from Belleville, Mascoutah and St. Clair County went to the area as the suspect fled. The 17-year-old was later found and arrested. Police said they found a handgun in his possession.
