GRANITE CITY, Ill. (KMOV) – The owner of Hudson Jewelers spent most of the day cleaning up glass and debris after three crooks broke into their store overnight.

Hudson Jewelers President John Hudson said he could not believe his eyes.

“It looked like a bomb went off,” said John Hudson.

The glass displays were smashed.

“Glass everywhere smashed show casing smashed front windows. Smashed everything they could smash with bricks and paving stones,” said John Hudson.

Owners said the crime happened around 4:30a.m. Saturday.

“Earrings rings watches you name it. They just smashed and grabbed everything they could unfortunately,” said John Hudson.

Almost a year ago the same thing happened at their Edwardsville location.  The owner, Rosalie Hudson, said things were completely different when her family first went in to business 75 years ago.

“Why? I wonder why anyone would want to do that. If it was young people who needed money we would have helped them,” said Rosalie Hudson.

John said his family is not going to let this get them down.  They are looking on the bright side of things as they always have.

“Extremely thankful very thankful. It's a horrific scene when we arrived but thankfully it was in the wee hours of the morning and no one as here no one was here,” John Hudson said.
