ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KMOV.com) – A man was pronounced dead after being tased by a St. Louis County officer late Monday night.

Officers from the South County Precinct were called to the 2900 block of Gladwood Drive after a caller reported a family member was harming himself, destroying a home and possibly under the influence of drugs around 10:35 p.m. The caller also told officers the man, identified as Tereance Klein, was barricaded in the basement of the home after hitting himself in the head with frying pans.

When the officers arrived to the home, the person who reported the incident told police to wait for another officer to arrive because he believed the officer would be injured.

When the second officer arrived, they contacted the 57-year-old subject and attempted to restrain him to prevent him from harming himself or others. Klein became combative towards officers when they attempted to handcuff him, according to police. The officers reportedly could not gain control Klein and were forced to their taser.

When the officers handcuffed the man, they noticed he was not breathing. Officials said they attempted life-saving measures, which were unsuccessful. Klein was pronounced dead on the scene.

The incident is under investigation by the St. Louis County Police Department’s Bureau of Crimes Against Persons.
