Elderly convicted felon accused of killing senior housing complex employee

ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -- A man is charged in the fatal shooting of a woman that occurred Thursday afternoon inside a senior housing complex in South City.

Torrance Epps, 78, is charged with first-degree murder, armed criminal action, assault, unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Police said the shooting happened in the 1400 block of Ohio after 1:00 p.m. Thursday. 

Police said he first fired shots at a woman close to her apartment.

Epps then allegedly approach an assistant manager of the complex about money that had gone missing over the weekend. Homicide detectives said burglary detectives are looking into the theft claims. 

The assistant manager, 32-year-old Tiandra Johnson, was shot and in the chest and was pronounced deceased at the scene.  According to her residents, she was a mother of two set to start a new job next week.

Epps is a convicted felon who served time in prison for another murder. He was convicted in 1974.

No one else was injured.
