One St. Louis mayoral candidate has been given the nod of approval from local firefighters.

Members of the International Association of Firefighters Local 73 announced Thursday they are endorsing President of the Board of Aldermen Lewis Reed for mayor.

“We believe President Lewis Reed has the experience and temperament to effectively lead the City of St. Louis into the future,” wrote Demetris “Al” Alfred, President of the union.

Last month, members of the St. Louis Police Officers Association endorsed another candidate, Aldermen Lyda Krewson, for mayor.

Reed issued a statement regarding the firefighter’s union endorsement, which read in part: “I am honored to be supported by the great firefighters of the City of St. Louis.”
