Power returning to residents south of St. Louis

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

Several thousand people are without electricity in several counties south of St. Louis because of ice.

The outages cover Jefferson, Iron and St. Francois Counties, with Jefferson County taking the biggest hit. As of 5 AM, more than 3,500 residents were without power in the county, which is about four percent of the homes. 

As the sun rose, Ameren was able to restore power to many of the affected residents. By 8 a.m., total outages in Missouri and dipped below 3,000, with Jefferson County accounting for a little more than 1,200 and St. Louis County accounting for 575,
