How local agencies are preparing for possible ice storm; IDOT changes approach

Posted: Updated:
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

Ameren says it will be loading up storm equipment trailers to prepare for the possible ice storm forecasted for this weekend.

The agency said it will deploy the trailers Thursday close to where the damage occurs so crews will not have to go long distances on icy roads.

Ameren also said it is prepared to call in more workers if necessary.

IDOT originally wasn't going to pre-treat, however, with the changing forecast, they have decided to change their approach.  Now, they've decided to get their trucks on the road ahead of the storm to pre-treat.

MoDOT said it is pretreating roads but said an ice storm is the most difficult type of storm to fight.

Authorities are urging people to stay off the road unless travel is absolutely necessary.

St. Louis City officials said many side streets will not be plowed or pre-treated because it is difficult for the crews with big equipment to get down those streets.

Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens has declared a State of Emergency and called up the National Guard.
