ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -- Police are searching for a suspect wanted in a robbery from January 2 that occurred in the Skinker DeBaliviere neighborhood.

According to police, the 40-year-old female victim was exiting her vehicle in the 5600 block of Pershing Avenue when a young man ran up and demanded her purse. She threw her purse and lunch bag at the suspect, and he fled in the driver’s seat of a small silver SUV that was parked nearby.

The suspect, described as a black male in his early 20s with a short afro, went north on Clara out of sight. Later that morning, the victim's purse and lunch bag were located in the 4700 block of Westminster Place.

Police later recovered surveillance footage from the area that showed the suspect tossing the items out of the window of the SUV.

They are asking for the public’s help locating the vehicle, which is described as an early 2000s SUV, possibly a Mercury Mariner, with a darker-colored rear driver’s side tire rim and a damaged driver’s side brake light.

Anyone who recognizes this vehicle or suspect is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 866-371-TIPS (8477).
