WENTZVILLE, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

A Wentzville man is charged with kidnapping and armed criminal action after he held a man inside his apartment during what police call a 'drug-induced paranoia.

On Saturday night, police said Brian Aynes and another man inside an apartment on the 300 block of Park Lane injected methamphetamine, shortly after Aynes barricaded the door with large furniture, preventing the victim from leaving. Aynes had a knife and a hammer.

“With Aynes standing in front of the locked door, holding a hammer and knife, [the victim] did not feel he was going to be allowed to leave,” read court documents.

Just before 5:00 a.m. on Sunday, police received a call from a woman claiming to be Aynes’ mother. When police arrived to the apartment on Park Lane, they could see Aynes through the window holding a hammer and a knife. He refused to acknowledge police or their requests.

“In a paranoid state, Aynes ransacked multiple items in the bedroom,” read the court documents.

The documents go on to say Aynes threw a glass candle holder through the window where it landed on a car below on the street, shattering its windshield. He also threw a speaker out the window.

Police said they could hear Aynes yelling at the victim, telling him now to move. Screaming could be heard and police made entry into the apartment.

Wentzville Police Chief Kurt Frisz said they took Aynes into custody without incident. The victim sustained several abrasions to his back.

“He is known to our department,” said Chief Frisz.

Aynes has a criminal history including burglaries, assaults, robbery and drugs.
