ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

"I wish I could go back to work."

Those were the words of Ballwin Police Officer Michael Flamion, six months after he was shot and paralyzed during a traffic stop.

"I think I tell Sarah (Flamion) 5 or 6 times a week, man I wish I could go back to work. It's just one of them careers, once you get in it you're hooked," Flamion said.

Antonio Taylor, 32, is charged with assault on a law enforcement officer, unlawful use of a handgun, armed criminal action and resisting arrest. According to Flamion, he doesn't spend much time thinking about Taylor.

"No, half the time we can't even remember his name, we have to Google search just to remember his name," he said.

Flamion said it would be hard not to have some anger and bitterness over what happened, but it's not his personality to dwell on negative things and he's focused on moving forward with his life.

Recently, he attended the NHL Winter Classic thanks to tickets donated by NHL referee Tim Peel.

Flamion said, "They all signed a referee jersey for me and we hung out for 15-20 minutes. Tim got us the tickets and we had an amazing time."

Flamion thanked everyone for all the fundraisers and donations to help with his medical bills. He said he was just doing his job when he was shot but is grateful to have been awarded a Purple Heart and the Medal of Valor. Later this year, the Gary Sinise Foundation is schedule to build a handicap accessible home for him and his wife.

This year would have marked Flamion's 10th year in law enforcement. Even after all he's gone through, he said he'd still choose a career as a police officer if he had it all to do over again.

"Absolutely, wouldn't think twice about it," said Flamion.
