COLLINSVILLE, Ill. (KMOV.com) – Police in the Metro East are searching for a vehicle that may be connected to multiple vehicle burglaries in the area.

The vehicle, described as a 2006-2010 red Jeep Grand Cherokee with tinted windows and no front license plate, has been seen on surveillance video over the past several months. Police believe the rear license plate of the vehicle is stolen.

The vehicle is believed to have been driven by a suspect who has burglarized vehicles throughout the area, including one that was in the parking lot of an Applebee’s in Collinsville and belonged to a Chicago-area wrestling team. The suspect normally forces entry into the vehicles, but has also been able to open them because they have been left unlock, according to police.

The Collinsville Police Department said they received a call on Dec. 30 that the suspect vehicle was seen near Zapata’s Mexican Restaurant and Cantina on Eastport Plaza Drive, but when they attempted to stop it, it fled onto southbound Interstate 55/70.

The Collinsville Police Department urges residents to keep their vehicles locked and valuables out of sight.

Anyone with information about the vehicle or suspect should contact police at 618-344-2131 ext. 5130 or CrimeStoppers at 866-371-8477.
